Tasting Notes and Australia and Variety and Red and shiraz et al and Swan Hill
I have listed this as Swan Hill but it is from a region called Perricoota that is near Echuca. I forget how much I paid but seem to recall somewhere around the $15 mark. In our road trip along the Murray we tried many wines from irrigated vineyards and generally did not get much joy from them. This seemed to have more structure and a little more flavour to it. We had it with pasta and found it quite enjoyable. Flavours of cherry, cinamon spice and a little blueberry. The nose and the palate show a fair dose of oak and good tannins that with the soft shiraz flavours make quite an easy to consume red. I gather they are now selling the 2004 but little is given away on the website.

Yes it is the first day of Spring and I threw in 3 Rose to try with a group of friends last week in anticipation. This is from a winery that one does not hear too much about yet they have the largest bag press in Australia. Wendy and I visited there on our way to Mildura last May. I believe the label has been changed so that it is now called Masterpeace Rose 2006. They also have a nice Sagrantino and a great quaffa style chardonnay. This wine is made from Shiraz and Sangiovese. The colour is a lovely bright pink/red and the nose is full of fruit that is vaguely like a raisin/muscat/red berry style. On the palate the fruit is full on but the level of sugar is too much for my palate but that probably just means most others will love it.
They call this wine “The Calf” because it comes in half bottles and it’s designed to complement a nice piece of prime beef. I love half bottles and wish that more producers would use them. Perfect for restaurant wine lists when you don’t want a full bottle (or aren’t prepared to risk a glass of dodgy three day old brown wine) and equally handy in domestic situations that call for an emergency glass of something red.
