700 Reviews Sunday, Jul 30 2006
At the start of June we cracked the 500 tasting note mark and now we have just hit 700. That’s over 100 reviews per month (for the slower readers) and gaining momentum. I am guessing there will be 1500+ reviews up by the end of the year. In other news we have already seen over half a million hits to the website in July alone generating over 5gb of bandwidth. Luckily I upped our limit to 10gb at the start of the month. Winorama, it’s like a bus full of school kids careening down a steep hill with no brakes.

And the bus is being driven by Otto from The Simpsons?

Congrats on the milestones Gary, Lincoln and David.
I don’t think that hits is a good method to measure anything by, but it is obvious things are going very well.

What measure would you prefer?

One that doesn’t count every HTTP server request as a unique visit would be ideal. Every time someone views the front page it probably counts as twenty odd hits depending on how many images you have up there so it is a figure that doesn’t mean a whole lot.
Say there is 200 odd kilbytes of data to be loaded on the main page (20 images at 10 kilobytes each, working out to 500000 hits/5 gigabytes) then unique visitors probably around 25000? Maybe a few more on top of that if you take into account that not everyone is loading the main page every time.

From observations on my own site, remove about half of those unique visitor numbers as well due to search engines crawling the page counting as a visit, spammers trying to post counting as a visit and so on as well.
I still think it is a great effort, at six months of age my site was getting all of about 4000 hits a month, so your growth is excellent.

There are 15 posts per page now. I did this to slow down bandwidth usage. Unique visits so far this month is 34,039 from 9104 sites. Only two days to go.

GW, Linc and David,
Well done!
Impressive numbers, more impressive though is the velocity at which you guys are able to post tasting notes!

Well done guys. No matter how you count it, a lot of people are checking out the site on a regular basis. Great work!

Well done? Very well done! Keep your tongues and livers intact!

Can we have ya liver then? I have just returned from the bestest Pinot indulged 10 days of my life and need a break. Reviews will fire up once the 48 hour Alcohol free period is over and with it the jet lag buzz.
Well done Gary and Linclon for starting this excellent resource.

It is an excellent resource.
I find myself popping in to visit every half hour or so to look up reviews and comments, for my own information and to help with customer inquiries.
The best part of it is the depth and breadth of wines reviewed.
Keep going!

Congratulations on the achievements. The bus analogy really works - sounds about right to me!
