Tasting Notes and Spain and Variety and Red and grenache et al

A 54 mm cork; I measured it. I almost needed two corkscrews to get it out, and I knew I was in trouble. Luckily I had the whole Saturday afternoon and night ahead of me to contemplate this wine. It was a rich red, with splashes of purple and lovely florals notes, followed by blackberries, old river gravel and raspberries. The palate is savoury and earthy, with blackberries, red liquorice and red cherries, gravelly tannins and lots of grip (but it was not that drying really). There was also superb fruit concentration, loving tannins and oodles of savouriness. A wine with some serious potential, but can be approached now - you won’t need a whip and a chair.

Spot on. A really well balanced wine IMHO.
Those corks are big, seems to be something with wine from Priorat.

Thanks Linc
Anyone tried the “les Terasses” from the same producer?
I have a couple at home and do not know whether to crack one.

Yep, while its quite drinkable now, I’d hold for a year before cracking the first one. Here is my note:
Initially quite reserved on the nose, it opens up with blackberry and dark cherry fruit and adds cinnamon initially. With some more air, a pleasant sooty aspect appears. Well balanced and refined in the mouth with a good hit of acid. The soft fruit tannins build into a great texture as the wine opens up. Lots of complexity with more dark fruits with licorice, crunchy minerals, pepper and spice. Great length and with more mineral and sour fruit on the finish. Looks like 04 Priorat is going to be a killer vintage. 91 Pts.

Dan, your right on that part. Priorat is very expensive (Our tax doesn’t help). Big demand here from the US has inflated prices. This sells for about A$60 in Europe and A$75 in the US, much more reasonable.
But on the other hand, a mid range CDNP is around the same price in Aus, personally I’d rather have this.
