Tasting Notes and Australia and Clare Valley and Variety and Red and cabernet et al
I thought the 2002 release of this wine was absolutely smashing. I can’t recall having the 2003 which of course does not necessarily mean that I did not.
Inky purple black. Outrageously violetty and floral with crushed blueberries and blackcurrants, mint, chocolate and lightly toasty vanilla oak. The palate is bursting with small blue and black fruits, violet, chocolate and more savoury tobacco flavours. Tight and compact with chalky grippy tannins. Slightly abrupt finish. It is so young and vigorous at the moment, with a certain hardness about it, that it looks like a barrel sample. Tasted on the second day the wine is still lively. It has softened a little but there is a mid-palate hole and an attenuated finish which is a shame because the nose promised so much more.
