Tasting Notes and Australia and Clare Valley and Variety and White and chardonnay

Another one from my case of cheap Chardonnays; this was one of the most expensive. Lemon and musk sticks, unripe melon, a squeeze of vanilla (if this is possible). The palate is quite sour, lemons and unripe tropical fruits, a bit of meal, almost green fruits, with some pith on the finish. It has a reasonable texture, but lacks some refinement and horsepower. Pretty good length and pretty good value.

How can you give a wine 86 points when it has such a long list of faults? “unripe…quite sour…, lemons and unripe tropical fruits, a bit of meal, almost green fruits, with some pith on the finish”

I suppose I don’t see all those things as faults. I quite like green fruits.

I don’t seem them as faults either otherwise I would have drunk a lot of faulty Chablis.

Just a quick note on cheap chardi. VC have 6 wolf blass gold label chardi for $100 with a free cellar share. As I normally get a bottle of Voyager shiraz(about $30)for a cellar share = about 11.60 a bot. Not bad

I have a sample of the 2005 Voyager chardonnay lined up to go soon.

“quite sour, lemons and unripe tropical fruits”
Why is this worth 86 points?

The structure of some rave wines can be described as quite sour by some and high minerality by others. I reckon Linc feels that at $10.70 this was quite good value.
