Annie’s Lane Coppertrail Riesling 2005 Sunday, Feb 4 2007
Tasting Notes and Australia and Clare Valley and Variety and White and riesling
I have gone a bit ho-hum on riesling over the last couple of years but this wine puts me right back in the mood for a bit of it. This is just how I like them. I use the ill defined term ‘mineral’ a bit in this note, but like pornography, it’s hard to define, yet you know it when you see it!
Aromas of Schweppes lime cordial, fresh lime, mineral, vanilla spice and a slight floral lift. There is also a hint of smoky reduction around it which adds rather than detracts. On the palate intense fresh squeezed lime, spice and mineral flavour. Excellent fruit flavour but still very light and fine. Clean fresh acid balance. Nothing out of place. Long limey crushed quartz finish. An outstanding wine from a great vintage. I’ll buy a few.
