Tasting Notes and Italy and Variety and Red and sangiovese et al

The Pèppoli Chianti Classico was introduced in 1988 with the 1985 vintage, and is intended to be a modern Chianti Classico. In a departure from traditional Chiantis, Pèppoli is intended to have the complexity and structure of a well-aged riserva with the fruity fragrance of a young wine. This one is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot and Syrah.
A nice nose: red cherries, red plums, dried meat and old black pepper, cloves and cassia bark, vanilla, a bit of stink, a certain pungency. The plate shows red fruits, savoury and medium bodied, drying and savoury. This is also some creamy oak, and some sweeter sweaty fruit. The finish is dry - it is a great food wine. We had it with some ciabatta and antipasto, and it was lovely.

I can never see the oak in this wine? I wonder how much oak this wine has seen? Everytime I try it it reminds me of a ‘new world’ style Chianti and always has me thinking if it is unoaked?

I thought there was a bit of creamy oak, but not as much as I was expecting. Not the cleanest wine, but sometimes too clean is very yawn boring.
