Bald Mountain Reserve Shiraz Cabernet 2000 Thursday, Jun 29 2006
Tasting Notes and Australia and Granite Belt and Variety and Red and shiraz et al

A very pleasant nose - juicy black cherries and raspberries, a whiff of leather, some savouriness, a bit of fleshy green stalks and spice. The palate is nicely balanced with red fruits and a light shake of pepper, acid, and oak somewhere in the distance. Very good length too. It is on the lighter side, but it is not thin - an honest effort.

Linc, nice to see someone championing the wines of QLD. We need a knight with shining Tastevin to push the product a bit more - though some consistency would also be nice. Pretty sure I tried this wine at cellar door on my way down south a couple of years ago. Nice wine, but preferred the straight Shiraz - it had a bit more weight. However, have had several vintages of this winery’s product and generally happy to impressed. ‘96 Shiraz in particular was most enjoyable around ‘04.

Last year picked up some very cheap $5 chardonnays 98 which went down very well, looked well and truly oaked but looks were deceiving as it was well blended with good fruit characters. Went back for 2 more cases particulartly for Mum who loves a little oak
