Bindi Pinot Noir 2001 Sunday, May 28 2006
Tasting Notes and Australia and Macedon and Variety and Red and pinot noir
A lovely example of a Pinot Noir that has aged well. Good but not great. The vintage was warm and generally the Pinots from 2001 looked lighter. This opened with restraint, showing spices like cinamon and dark cherry flavours. The palate has nice texture and a little raspberry as well as the black cherry. A spicey edge on the finish that I suspect is from the oak. It may last beyond my forecast if cellared well.

For my palate, Bindi are clearly making the greatest expressions of Pinot Noir in Australia.
Bar none.
Saw ever vintage with Michael Dhillon last year, and virtually every one was in top shape still. Elegance, finesse, pinosity. Can’t wait for the 2005s.

Interesting perspective. Michael was an invited winemaker to the 2003 Pinot Celebration because his wines are cool climate, Estate grown, made and bottled and damn good. I have seen better Australian 2001s and I am sure Michael would agree. But this is Pinot we are talking about. Every bottle is a new journey to explore. I am about to do a benchmark tasting of 2004 PN with a heap of good wines. Some great wines will not look good despite being served b4, during and after food. However, I have consumed enough in pre-trials to tell you that I think 04 is very good but 05 will be even better. Best smest! Variety and quality levels from a Lincoln 88, David 90 and Gary 92 and above will all provide enjoyment, the rest is the Y chromosome insisting on knowing its place in the pack.

I agree that Bindi is my favourite Australian Pinot.
Had a 2000 on Sunday night and it was fantastic.

Yes. But I spoke with Michael last week - quantities are down in 05 from 04.
Not such good news for us Bindiophiles!

Michael is one of the nicest blokes I’ve had the pleasure of not meeting (hopefully that’ll happen one day down the track - we’ve only ever spoken on the phone). The fact he makes bloody good/excellent wine is a bonus.
Stuart Anderson also desrves credit for his mentoring of this young “gun”.

When is the 05 due for release?

I think they go on sale ‘pre-arrival’ about August, for delivery in October.
