Bouchard Pere et Fils Vigne de l’Enfant Jesus 1er cru 2005 Monday, Oct 29 2007
Tasting Notes and France and Burgundy and Variety and Red and pinot noir
I was fortunate to have this at a dinner but I gather it is not available yet. In my humble opinion it is one of the better red wines in the Bouchards 2005 line up. The aromas are clean and start with some licorice moving on to plum. The palate is rather complex and starts with a lovely spice mix of licorice and oak that supports a strong line of plum with a little cherry on the side. The palate seems to last for quite some time. This wine is still evolving and I suspect it will take a few years to reveal its true potential.

David its available, although more likely been and gone by now. And showing very nicely - it shone along with the 99 in a vertical at the Brisbane Bouchard dinner a few weeks ago,

I too have had this wine. Personally, I’d caution against drinking (too many) too soon as it seemed to close down after a little while. I think it does have a lot of fruit can will actually start drinking nicely around 2012 — everyone’s tastes are different though!

I had this a couple of months ago and it was looking really good. The only concern would be the level of oak in this wine.

Anthony,
I think the 2005 will soak up the soak but I too am slightly frustrated by Bouchard’s oak handling.

I obviously am not sensitive to their oak handling cos I can happily scoff 04s and 05s now …

Fortunately David and I have had a more civil conversation, he has tried 4 of them , 2 Volnays and 2 Beaunes.
We also managed to have some discourse on what should be Bouchards “better” wines, the Chambertins and Vosne Romanees. I would expect these to outshine the Jesus in time.
Doesnt make his statement incorrect, it is always one of Bouchards better wines, I was just asking what he might have tasted to gauge his observation.
