Coriole Sangiovese 2006 Wednesday, Aug 22 2007
Tasting Notes and Australia and McLaren Vale and Variety and Red and sangiovese et al
Sangiovese derives its name from the Latin sanguis Jovis, “the blood of Jove” and by Jove this is an excellent local offering.
Aromas of sour cherry, dried herbs, violet, spice, licorice root and a little smoke. On the palate medium bodied with sour cherry, berry, violet, licorice root and dried herb flavours. Firm sandy loose knit tannins and fresh acidity. Finishes dry with powdery tannins and sour cherry and sarsaparilla flavours. It’s varietal, drinkable, affordable and very food friendly.

Great note GW.
I firmly believe that Coriole have got their winemaking around Sangiovese - apparently new clones have played a big role.
BTW I have already seen this for $15

Where?

Stephen Pannel played a role.
Gary why did the 05 get a value rate and this didn’t? Same score, same price.
Not very Mensa of you.

Because the ‘Wines of the Month’ is done at the end of the month and it is not the end of the month yet as there are 31 days in August.

I give big wraps to Mark Lloyd and co at Coriole for understanding just how important the price point is with this wine. Keeping an entry level sangiovese at consistently under $20 is very important for building market awareness, IMHO. I have had quite a bit of the 2005 of this, so will have to look out for the 2006. The 2006 is the 20th vintage of Coriole sangiovese, so they have had time to work things out.

Lincoln,
1st Choice (Qld) had the 2006 marked at $14.90 last week - I think it should have been the 2005 stock but all they had was 2006

31st of August is one of the major calander days of the year
I have been a big fan of Coriole Sangio but have not tried the 2006. I am getting fat and lazy
Maybe I should change my name to Walsh…

Anthony. You would also have to become really obnoxious when you drink. Walsh is like a nam vet.

I should clarify that before I offend a vet or two, specifically he is like someone who suffers from post-traumatic stress syndrome.

”

I would have thought corks popping and gallons of wine flowing in his dreams would have been heaven to GW, not give him the screaming heebie jeebies. It’s my preferred option - beats hell out of the mortars (no offence taken by the way).

I’m drinking one of these at the moment. Gary’s note is very good although he’s lost me a bit on the violets. My experience this time confirms that I prefer this to the 05 Brunello clone, although it is a close run thing. This really is killer stuff for the price. In fact, I’d struggle to name an Australian red I’d rather be drinking at this price point.
