Tasting Notes and Spain and Variety and Red and grenache et al
This is a blend of Grenache, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah and it delivers exactly what I expected of a sub $20 Spanish wine. And that’s a bit of character, good fruit and thigh slapping drinkability.
It smells perfumed and pretty with cherry, raspberry, Redskin lollies and a fair shake of pepper. On the palate medium bodied with light, dry and very refreshing tannins. It has juicy cherry and raspberry fruit, a sort of Redskin lolly character that is sweet and appealing (not sickly or confected) that’s balanced out with a tart cranberry dryness and a few dried herbs. Finishes dry and clean. A really attractive weekday table wine with good deal of character.

Some of the wines that the mad Catalonian brings in include a Garnacha Tinta made solely from 100 plus year old vines, which shows just how good a Grenache/Garnacha wine can be.

The 100 year old vine one is called Centenaria and is a bargain at $35. I’m not sure if the 05 is out yet but it should be a cracker.

I have a bottle of the 2006 on the bench.

I had the 2006 Centenaria on Saturday - picked it up for $14.99 which I would say is a pretty fair price for the wine. I’ll leave the other two bottles for a fair few years as it looks raw and a bit jammy at present.
