De Bortoli Yarra Valley Estate Pinot Noir 2005 Sunday, Jan 7 2007
Tasting Notes and Australia and Yarra Valley and Variety and Red and pinot noir
This is my second tasting of this wine. I was not sure what was happening when I tasted the first one. Something was wrong (and I am never one to discount the fact that it could be me) but this one is right on the money.
Aromas of raspberry, plum, forest floor, meat and spicy cinnamon caramel oak. On the palate light to medium bodied with flavours of raspberry, red cherry, sap and meaty overtones. Fine grained lightly sappy tannins and fresh lively acidity. Tangy red fruited finish. A lovely delicate and very varietal wine.

You are a points miser Mr Walsh. Huon Hooke just gave this 96 points

..and Campbell Mattineye 94…hmmmmmm. Well I tried it twice! You had better taste one yourself as you have a better palate than those two points tarts.

There was no way this was a 96 point wine for me.

I look forward to trying it tonight
It will be interesting long term to see what is a better year for Pinot Noir in the Valley: 2004 or 2005? I’m thinking 05’s will be longer lived.

I am drinking this tonight. 91-92 points at the moment we will see how it goes over time in the decanter. Not a big pinot, raspberry, cherries, but quite floral and stacks of acidity. This will age really well I reckon.

Took the advice and splurged on half a dozen and was not disspointed, particularly for the price ($22 at VC). Have been drinking alot of Otago pinot of late and this was a refreshing change(still love the stuff). Much more euro style with great acidity and a bright future. Look forward to trying it in a couple of years. Thanks for the tip.

Lovely drop this.
Better than the ‘04 already, and a big future ahead of it. Sensational value.

Very nice wine this; I agree better than the ‘04. And amazing value at less than $25.
Thanks for putting me onto this one. Keep up the good (and hard) work
