Tasting Notes and Australia and Yarra Valley and Variety and Red and pinot noir
These new style De Bortoli pinots often confuse me. I tasted this over two days and it opened up significantly on the second day.
Aromas of cherry, strawberry, some meatiness and creamy spicy oak. Sweet and fragrant. On the palate light to medium bodied with red fruits, spice and meaty earthy flavours. A light stalkiness adds interest. A drier savoury style rather than a fruity one. Good texture - it feels firm and slightly chalky with fairly strong acidity but a looks a bit compressed with most of the weight falling on the front palate. I’d say it needs more time in bottle to come together.

Did you ever end up having another look at the ‘05 reserve?
Maybe you are a closet lover of the shiraz style of pinot…

No and yes..I love Rousseau, de Vogue and all those shiraz styles.

Stalky note is interesting. Historically the winemaker speaks of whole berry ferments, not whole bunch. Do you think there has been a deviation for the 06?

Not sure. No notes came with the samples. I’d say it might be related to picking time rather than winemaking.
