Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin Grand Cru 2000 Saturday, Jul 5 2008
Tasting Notes and France and Burgundy and Variety and Red and pinot noir
A Rousseauist friend opened this as part of a rather fine evening. It was blind but the oak and fruit style are very, very distinctive and I must confess that once my suspicions were there, I played the person. The nose has the classic pencil shavings aroma I often associate with Francois Freres barrels but with superb red cherry. The palate is very clean and has great hang time as it gently perfuses the red cherry with a soft woody background. This is drinking well now but should last many years yet. I have tried this wine about half a dozen times since 2003 and although it is developing, it is very slow.

Fabulous wine, and now looks cheap for what it is….almost. What does ‘perfuses’ mean?

Had the 2005 as a curio at lunch the other day, which is perhaps the best Chamb ever.

Yep, hell of a curio. I was lucky enough to taste the 2005 amongst a bracket of twelve grand cru 2005’s and it looked so good. Time will tell whether it will be the Chambertin of the vintage and possibly Rousseau’s best ever. I think so. It was a little sad to see the corks ripped out of 05 now but I no complain.
