Tasting Notes and France and Burgundy and Variety and Red and pinot noir
I visited this domain last year and discovered that The Prince has some. The colour is lovely, bright and deep. The nose is oozing cherries and a little spice. The palate is BIG. The tannins are somewhat softer than I expected but the fruit is lovely. The alcohol suggests more than the 13.5% on the label and it does look a little flabby. The wine was consumed blind alongside a number of other Pinots from the new world and although it had lovely length and flavour it could have been mistaken for a Californian wine. Lovely, but not sure if it will last to the next decade, but I would be happy to consume over the next few years.

Some one was trying to tell me that Lamarche was moving ahead in recent times, they have been a bit of a straggler in terms of the quality of the wines vs the great vineyards they have. I had a 98 Les Suchots last year that was quite nice, still have never had the La Grand Rue yet and that is on my to do list this year.

It may have been me. I reviewed another one that I brought back a few months back. They are doing much better although I was a little disappointed with the Big Street.

I was in Burgundy 2 months ago and we were fortunate enough to visit this domaine. We tasted most of the wines in barrel - at least those that had gone through malo and took a bottle of Clos de Vougeot home for dinner. I’m not sure where this domaine has come from on a quality basis, but we enjoyed the wines a lot and this was the best wine experience of our trip (note, this was not a ‘wine’ trip - we only visited a few producers and really stumbled across Lamarche)

Re Big Street- it is astonishing that it is ten yards from Romanee Conti and never quite captures the imagination. I think it was Meadows who was suggesting that they are trying to pick up the pace.
