Tasting Notes and New Zealand and Variety and Red and pinot noir and Nelson
Eight clones, hand picked with 10% whole bunch fermentation. I have a range of wines to try from this producer and it looks like being an excellent addition to the already excellent portfolio of Victorian distributor Linear Acidity.
Aromas of cherry, strawberry, a little chocolate, light creamy oak and heavy white pepper characters. On the palate medium bodied with cherry, strawberry, pepper, spice and sour edged tamarillo flavours. Bright acidity and sappy grainy tannins. Good dry spicy finish. Varietal and tasty. A good wine but I find the white pepper characters a bit distracting.

I look forward to trying this wine. It sounds like the opposite end of the spectrum to the lush “Cali” style but one worthy of a look depending on how you feel about pepper, which normally comes with some canopy shading. We met Andrew when we camped in Abel Tasman National park a few years back and liked the richness of their Pinot which were more like the Californian style. Good to see vintage variation.

Written up in one of todays papers. I didn’t see the pepper that GW did and it appears that Max didn’t either but the other flavours are more or less on target, nice wine that I would be happy to consume if I spy it on a restaurant list. To add a twist of intrigue, the pepper I saw in a burg the other night breathed out after 24 hours. My theory is that if there is a bit of a reductive edge to a Pinot some of the subtle red berry flavours get masked until it breathes out but the impact on opening is about pepper and maybe even some licorice.

I tasted it 24 hours later. Still peppery.

I liked this wine. The Savvy is a winner as well. The Chardy was the only one that didn’t grab me.

Its my theory but it’s not called the Annabel theory. OK? Congrats Geelong supporters and commiserations Port Adelaide supporters.
