Tasting Notes and France and Burgundy and Variety and Red and pinot noir
Well the Wine Emporium has been moving quite a bit of 05 Burgundy over the past few months. Not suprisingly really given the hype. This is one of the few still in stock. The wine was matured for 15 months in casks with no racking, and with a fairly low proportion of new wood (< 20%). Bottled using gravity, without fining or filtration. A lovely nose, red fruits, some pink meats, minerals and a bit of undergrowth. The palate is tight, with minerally black cherries, excellent structure, spice and a bit of sap. Elegant, with good length and a clean dry finish. Needs a year or two to fill out.

I tasted this in Melbourne when it came I - good wine and great value. Thought you were a bit stingy with the points, but then again maybe the Brisbane heat has knocked it a touch….

Yeah probably. Put it this way though, I would happily buy it again - it would be good to have a few of this wine in the cellar.

While on the subject of 2005 Burgundy, it’s been said round here that generic Burgundy should be ignored, a sentiment I generally agree with.
But an exception to the rule is the Faiveley 2005, a cracker!

I had a text from a winemaker on the weekend who said…’Had a 05 Faiveley Bourgogne. Junk, but you would have loved it. Like shiraz’

Lincoln,
I’ve had a few of the 05 Boissets and must say theat the Beaune Greves is one of the more robust wines…as was the case in 04.
Cheers,
Kent

Are you suggesting that all Yarra Valley winemakers think the same way?
Am pretty sure a number of them are card carrying members of the Armand Rousseau fan club.
