Longhop Shiraz 2007 Sunday, May 18 2008
Tasting Notes and Australia and Wines of the Month and Top Value and Adelaide Plains and Variety and Red and shiraz et al

It’s admittedly not my preferred style, but it’s very very good wine nonetheless. Incredible value too. I particularly like the names of the vineyards it comes off - Gagliardi, Notto, Trombetta and Manno, although I’m more than half expecting to find a horse’s head in my bed if I don’t give it over 90 pointas!
It’s fully loaded with spice, macerated dark cherry, leather and liquorice - complex and vinous way beyond its price point. On the palate full bodied and deep with spice, cherry liqueur, leather and good freshness even though it’s fully rich and ripe. Fine grained supple tannins and excellent texture - hale and hearty yet not without sophistication. Long finish. Outstanding value. Top wine.

Nice note GW and as ojective as you could be considering it’s not your preferred style.
You are right, it is outstanding value and regardless of your visions of a horse’s head, my 91pts rating was solely based on my opinion of the wine
.
Cheers

This is good, but try and get hold of the Longhop Old Vines Shiraz. Quality tipple.

GE are you referring to the Old Plains Power Of One or the Old Vines Reserve Cab/Shiraz 05 blend? I’ve tried the latter and have a couple of bottles stashed but haven’t tried the former which is at the upper level of my price limit - there are many other wines/wineries around that also appeal at the price.
I really enjoyed the Longhop Shiraz 06 (probably bought 15 btls - last 1 or 2 consumed in the last couple of months) and do also much enjoy the 07, to the extent that I’ve drunk 3 btls aready, am presently sipping on the 4th and have another 8 ordered/in transit which will bring the total 2007s to 14.
Which brings me to the initial reason I was going to post. Enjoying the 4th btl of 07, I recalled seeing, somewhere, that it was produced in less quantity than the 06
Having 2 left with 3 in transit from CD, I thought I’d order another 3pk from CD tonight, only to find the 3pk up from $15/btl to $18/btl and a doz up from $14.50/btl to $16.25/btl. So I reluctantly (total cost considerations) ordered a mixed doz (incl 5 Longhop shiraz’ @ $14.99) from the etail outlet gets most of my custom.
But I did include some other wines that I wanted to get/try.
