Maestro Pinot Grigio 2005 Tuesday, Jan 17 2006
Tasting Notes and Australia and Tasmania and Variety and White and pinot gris/grigio

First things first. Pinot Gris/Grigio rates very high on my shit list when it comes to varietals. This wine is made from fruit grown near Launceston in Tasmania.
Spicy aromas of mango, peach and pear. Quite floral too. Smells good. So far so good. The front palate starts well with flavours of pear and white peach then comas an assault of stinging alcohol and crushed nettles - not far off a dose of mouthwash. Coarse and phenolic. Hot alcoholic finish. OK so this is a bit of a tongue in cheek review but this wine certainly held no appeal for either JP or myself. I have tried other Maestro wines and found them to be very good. They do a very nice Barbera for example.

This is the first I have heard of the Maestro brand and I’m interested to hear they have sourced fruit from Tasmania for this wine.
I wonder how it would stack up against a Stefano Lubiana or Pipers Brook PG?

Hello,
I believe it was made by Andrew Hood. Maestro is a non Hunter Valley brand for Robin Tedder. Fruit is sourced from Orange, Tasmania etc etc His Hunter brand is Glenguin. I have had a few Lubiana PG’s which were quite good and the Pipers have made some good ones.
