Meerea Park “Epoch” Semillon 2002 Wednesday, Jul 4 2007
Tasting Notes and Hunter Valley and Australia and Variety and White and semillon et al

Hello, we’re a couple of girls,
hello, lipstick and curls,
we read Women’s Own,
tidy up ’round the home,
and brass was used for coins in Roman Britain.
I am currently tasting two two thousand and two semillons from Meerea Park and that song came to mind. A combination of two delicate semillons and the two Eather brothers must have triggered that scary thought process…Anyway the two wines in question are the cork sealed 2002 Alexander Munro ($35) and this screwcap sealed Epoch. Both current releases with the Epoch being a museum re-release. Predictably the cork sealed wine is showing cork flavours and a slight taint so I will skip reviewing that one.
Aromas of lemon barley, lime, hay, buttered toast and a smoky flinty smell. On the palate good intensity and flavour with lemon, toast, hay and spice. It has a good level of complexity now through the magic of bottle age. Crisp crunchy acidity and a long dry finish. Excellent wine and a triumph for the screwcap.
