Meerea Park Shiraz 2007 Saturday, Mar 8 2008
Tasting Notes and Hunter Valley and Australia and Hilltops and Variety and Red and shiraz et al
Again this is a blend of 60% Hilltops and 40% Hunter Valley and again it’s a very smart wine at the price.
It’s spicy and saucy with plum, black fruit, pepper and the barest lick of dusty old oak. On the palate medium to full bodied with plenty of spice, a mix of plum skins, juicy dark cherry, a few dried herbs and a bit of smoke. It has balanced acidity, lightly chalky open weave tannins and a good spicy finish. A young giant killer from the Hills and the Valley - I’d suspect it has a little room for further improvement too.

I had a look at the Hilltops and Hunter components prior to blending and the quality and purity of the Hilltops fruit was outstanding. I’d be happy to drink a lot of that on its own.

Wow, when did this get released? I only recentey purchased some of the 2006 for something silly like $12 a bottle. One of the best Tuesday night reds I have bought in a while.
Where abouts can you buy the 2007???

Not sure yet. I think it may be filtering into retail now as the 2006 was such a raging success.

You should be able to pick some up at Dan Murphy’s Alexandria very soon I’d imagine, just ask the big unit who is the Fine Wine Manager there. He is a big fan of Meerea Park.

Dan Murphy’s hey, I might have to go and see the big fella and get a case. Got to support the lads from M.P. after hearing they have had some bad luck with rain early in the year. No 2008 Aleaxander Munro, Disaster!
