Tasting Notes and Australia and Adelaide Hills and Variety and Red and merlot et al
Monday is always the biggest day for delivery of samples. Three dozen or so yesterday. Not sure why. Anyway, I sauntered in yesterday to check out the last few days arrivals and grabbed this out of the box. I’d read a lot of good things but never tried the wines. So far, so good. Adelaide Hills does a good line in Merlot I think and I used to like the Shaw + Smith one..and then they grafted it over to something else.
Great colour and then an attractive mix of black plum and red berry, some leafiness, black olive, a touch of camphor and then a layer of spicy vanilla and cocoa oak. It’s medium to full bodied with a good fruity red berried attack and some more savoury olivaceous flavours backed with seductive, if not obvious, vanilla oak. With smooth but assertive powdery tannins, a fresh and supple mouthfeel and good length flavour this modestly priced Merlot delivers the goods in spades. Dial M for Merlot.

Can you fit in the office any more with all those foam packs these days ?

I have implemented “The New System” which involves unpacking, putting into cardboard boxes (often with a theme) and disposing of foam as they come in.

No. They might be in the box. Did not check what else they sent.

I’ve had both the 05 Cabernet (sold out) and the 06 Cabernet. At $100 a box delivered to your door I reckon its hard to do much better for your money.

No. I figure that might be decided later - perhaps based on its performance. Speculation mind you. Don’t know.
