Mike Press Wines Shiraz 2007 Saturday, Aug 2 2008
Tasting Notes and Australia and Adelaide Hills and Variety and Red and shiraz et al
Crowd pleasing aromatics of sweet vanilla and nougat oak over ripe plum and mixed berries with allspice and black pepper adding a little exotica. Medium to full bodied with good ripe plum and berry fruit backed with vanilla oak - obvious but high quality. It has strong open weave tannins and slightly edgy acid but still feels smooth and creamy with a good long finish of vanilla dusted plum. At the price it’s close to unbeatable.

I have a doz in transit so appreciate the TN Gary. I liked the 05 but didn’t think much of the 06.

The box arrived today and I’m presently tasting the wine. Your TN descibes it very accurately but I’d add that after a bit of breathing the fruit seems to brighten up and a touch of licorice appears in the melange. You’re on the mark with the tannins and acid. Hopefully they’ll integrate more with a couple of years or so in bottle. For $110/doz + $22.50 freight (for me - $11/btl) it’s excellent value, quite comparable to the 2005 shiraz that I very much enjoyed but for which I paid several $s/btl more from an etailer.
