Tasting Notes and Australia and Grampians and Variety and Red and shiraz et al
I have been swanning about at multiple champagne tastings today (more on this later) so thought I had better get back and do some real work - like tasting some wine. This arrived yesterday so I thought I might as well adopt a LIFO system today. Tomorrow I’ll adopt a FIFO system. I am adaptable. This wine shares many of the traits with the MLG shiraz of the same vintage. Some people loved it and others found it a bit porty and over done. Funny old business wine. I am not a style nazi so I’ll let the note do the talking.
Aromas of blackberry pie, licorice allsorts, pepper, chocolate sauce and cedar/coconut oak. It’s pretty rich and porty smelling. On the palate full bodied with flavours of ripe blackberry, raspberries, pepper, spice and coconut oak. Slightly sandy tannins but pretty smooth and ripe overall. Good length. A warm satisfying wine and a good drink.

Well they have not sent it in yet Pontius Pilate…I don’t have the pull (or the budget) that some do…..

Bought a bottle of this from the winery when I was up here three months ago. Boy, it’s a beautiful spot! Opened over the weekend and the cork was fairly soaked through with the wine. Tasted great though. What causes this seepage? If I had stored it longer would the wine have tasted bad?

Did the bottle get warm during its travels and how has it been stored since CD purchase? Could be storage/transport or could just be a dud cork…either way a good idea to open it now.

I’m not sure what a dud cork would look like. It didn’t get warm during it’s travels, but when I got it home I didn’t store it in a cool spot in the house. In fact it was stored where there was some temperature variation during the day. Would you say that was the most likely cause?
