Ninth IslandI am in Melbourne at the moment, which is probably just as well, because I don’t think I would get a bottle of this past my lovely wife. This wine is quite popular in bars for some reason and when wandering up to order a bottle I might suggest “Pinot?” and the response might be “Oh yes..anything but Ninth Island!”. I like it though. It is always a light fresh stalky red fruited style which I find quite attractive and very drinkable. I hear 2005 is considered a good vintage in Tassie so I grabbed a bottle to check it out.

Bright red colour. Aromas of strawberry/raspberry and red cherry jam, beetroot, spice, stalk and a touch of cocoa. On the palate it is lighter bodied and fresh with red fruit, beetroot and spicy flavours. Dry stalky fine and lightly astringent tannins. Dry crisp red fruit finish. A nice enough wine and one that I would be happy to glug down at any nice bar in Sydney.
