Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut 1998

By Gary Walsh

Perrier JouetThis is available exclusively through Vintage Cellars, which seems a bit of shame, but there you go. At least it’s widely available..

It’s a subtle style that’s gentle and very minerally with a distinct saline soda-like character, fresh green apple, some spice, a floral touch and a light honeycomb character. Very fine acid, a soft foaming creamy mouse and fractionally off dry - it’s gentle and dreamy and drinks beautifully. There’s some flintiness too and a slight chalkiness on the finish - which is nice and long. Lovely wine. I wandered lonely as a cloud…I’d really fancy a bottle of this at a posh picnic or similar.
