Philip Shaw No.8 Pinot Noir 2006 Tuesday, Feb 26 2008
Tasting Notes and Australia and Orange and Variety and Red and pinot noir
I’m a bit under the pump and the weather at the moment but as everyone knows, vitamin C is good for such things, and seeing as Orange is high in vitamin C I thought I would open this..
Clear bright red in colour and equally pretty to smell with red cherry, strawberry, a little mint, mixed peel, undergrowth and some spicy caramel oak in support. On the palate light to medium bodied with a mix of red fruit, spice and honeycomb (a bit like a Crunchie) flavours although it does feel appropriately dry and fresh. It has light dry tannin and a feathery texture with fruit of good clarity and pinosity and a closes clean and spicy. Flows along very nicely and drinks really well. Very attractive wine.

GW, I’m not sure alcoholic vitamin C fits the bill.

Impressive review from an invalid! We tasted the Philip Shaw at a Pinot Noir and Gris themed dinner last night. It was up against some mega-stars, including a Volnay, a Central Otago and the rapidly-becoming legendary, Villa Maria Reserve. All the NSW Pinots stood up very, very well with those who don’t prefer the heavy “wannabe Shiraz” New Zealand styles considering the Philip Shaw one of the top wines of the night.
