Rogues Lane Shiraz Malbec 2003 Thursday, Mar 30 2006
Tasting Notes and Australia and Heathcote and Variety and Red and shiraz et al
This is the first commercial release from a vineyard in the Wild Duck Creek region of Heathcote although the first crop came off them in 1998. Production is 400 to 600 cases per year. The wines are only available by mail order.
I went round to my brothers place for dinner and knew oxtail was on the menu. This wine was an excellent choice. Robust wine for robust food.
Very deep colour. Aromas of blackberry and other dark fruits, spice, sawn oak and peppermint. On the palate a flood of black fruit and spice with masses of grainy ripe tannin. Although the wine is dark and dense there is still freshness here and the alcohol does not intrude. Finishes warm and spicy. A rich and satisfying wine.

Bit of research would suggest that this retails for around the $60 mark?.
Winstate did an article on them and hinted that the wine cost less than $70. Emu Inn has the 03 listed at $63…with a 40% markup that would imply 40-50.

Yes. I suprised myself. Very nice wine. Lovely tannins. American Oak, 16% Alcohol and Heathcote. Not something I would want to drink often but very good.

Ha ha ha. Nice to see a low scoring wine from Heathcote from Nicks..they are usually 99-100 points! I liked the tannins. Mouth carpet.Suprisingly balanced too. I can see they are aiming for a Duck Muck market. The wine is good though.

Oh look - here is Martin Fields review of this wine in his latest eVine
Rogues Lane Heathcote Shiraz Malbec 2003 - $45
Dense black to purple hues. Youthful and intense nose of ripe berries, tobacco leaf, mint and alcohol (16%). A big red, abundant with generous fruit flavours and enduring length of finish. The mouthfeel is dominated by long and grippy tannic astringency. Really too young to drink but will cellar well to 2015.
