Rosemount Show Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 Wednesday, Jun 28 2006
Tasting Notes and Australia and Coonawarra and Variety and Red and cabernet et al
The press release that accompanied this bottle says that ‘The winemaking team is working towards a complete relaunch of the brand, with the transformation due to be revealed at the end of this year.’ Sounds interesting. The fruit for this wine comes from the Kirri Billi vineyard, which was planted in 1982 on terra rossa soil. Aged for 18 months in new and used French and American oak.
Aromas of blackberry jam, blackcurrant, tobacco and toasty mocha oak. On the palate it is medium to full bodied with flavours of blackberry, mulberry, tobacco, dried herbs and toasty oak. Quite savoury really. Loose knit sandy tannins dominate the mouthfeel. Finishes with a light bitter herb flavour but has length. Much better oak treatment in this than some earlier vintages. Certainly worth a look - especially if you can find it for less than the suggested RRP.

Are you having a BBQ???
I think I remember having it. 99% sure. Good fruit. Quite a lot of oak.

No, I bought 2 bottles for one of my coworkers to drink, it was in the bargain bin at my local for a mere $60AUD. cheap.

Gary,
I got a btl of this recently for $17, and maybe it compares quite well with say the Wynns BL.
I found it very open for a young cabernet, full of blackcurrant, blueberries, minty, nicely handled French oak and very fine tannins (which is typical with these Rosemount wines). I liked it, except for the plastic topped cork which is rubbish.
Adam,
Take a look at the 2000 Lindemans Pyrus. I had btl of this last weekend. A lovely, slightly savoury cabernet blend just starting to show some bottle-aged character and complexity and drinking rather nicely now.

I’d go the 03 Wynns BL anyday. The corks are iffy in these wines I agree.
Pyrus was good - note here http://www.winorama.com.au/?p=64

The funky bottle tops are going, and a new colour scheme as well. Never been a fan of those bottles.

The bottle’s not the only thing to be changing for the rosemount moniker…
sorry for heading off on a tagent from the original post…had to get it off my chest!
With the news that Fosters are having a fire sale which includes the Hunter division of Rosemount; the white wine facilities at Nuri of Penfolds (hopefully not the cellar door though…Megan there is an asset!) and Seppeltsfield: Lock, Stock and 100 year old Barrels! Except the new owner can’t use the name ‘Seppelts!’

They can use Seppeltsfield though.

Gary,
you’re spot on. that would be the only name viable to carry the tradition. I wonder if the new owners would be allowed to keep the Para bottle shape/label design?
