Salomon Undhof Kögl Riesling 2005 Saturday, Sep 22 2007
Tasting Notes and Austria and Variety and White and riesling
Kögl single vineyard in Krems and Stein, two wine towns on the Danube which are steeped in tradition and situated west of Vienna. The surrounding wine-growing region is called Kremstal, which has been making wine for centuries and are noted for their fragrant and elegant white wines. The vineyards of Salomon Undhof are situated in the westerly Kremstal, where soil over bedrock is dominant.
And this wine was sealed with a glass stopper - my first I think. An elusive nose, with pretty florals and tropical fruits, citrus with a bit of herbs and cumquat marmalade. The palate is tight, with sour lemons and hard green fruits, quite intriguing, pleasantly fruited with a bit of mineral and lemon rind on a dry finish. Fine boned with good length.

Thanks for the TN. Based on it, I’ll take the chance and buy some 2006’s.

The 2006 vintage is excellent. Mineral-driven with a superb balance. Highly recommended.
