Tatachilla Foundation Shiraz 2001 Monday, Dec 11 2006
Tasting Notes and Australia and McLaren Vale and Variety and Red and shiraz et al
I remember liking the 99 Foundation a fair bit. This bottle came with a nice round of Sienna Panforte to which I am very partial, although JP tells me it is the sort of food that grannies like to eat at XMAS time. I am also partial to gifts. I think people should start enclosing money with wines. That would be great but nothing smaller than a fifty or I might be offended and throw the bottle against the wall in a fit of pique.
Slightly developed colour. Aromas of plum, berries, licorice bullets, dirty old leather and minty coffee oak. Opened up a bit stinky at first but this faded into the background. On the palate full bodied and plush with velvety soft tannins. It is slightly porty and leathery with flavours of licorice bullets, game, rich plum and berry fruit backed with minty oak. Dry finish. I do like this but it is a fairly quirky wine and maybe not for everyone.
