Taylors Promised Land Shiraz Cabernet 2004 Friday, Jun 16 2006
Tasting Notes and Australia and Clare Valley and Limestone Coast and Variety and Red and shiraz et al
I opened this one along side the Cabernet Merlot and thought that the Cab Merlot had the edge. It has a better flavour profile for my tastes and has more vinosity.
Aromas of cherry, blackberry, chocolate, licorice and spicy clove oak. On the palate blackberry, choc/mocha and spice flavours. Slightly grapey flavours at the moment though. Nice soft tannins and not too heavy. This has high drinkability. You could glug plenty of this down no problems at all - especially at the price.

It is coming. My web guy has issues with time- he has plenty of it and I don’t, we will get there though, eventually. I’m changing the ProSpective part into a blog section as well so that it can be a bit more interactive.
Re the Taylors. I actually liked the Shiraz/Cab more, just a bit more lush and fun. At this price point I reckon that is the go. Both bloody good wines though for under $15. Taylors are champions at VFM.

nice, but I don’t see how it deserves the three bronze and one silver medals. Priced very well. Would it improve over two-three years?? Maybe??

Though I haven’t tried the 2004 shiraz/cab, I found the 2005 one was very good esp. going with smooked fish - it gives out a smoothy, buttery and vienna taste. Tradition says white goes to white and red to red. This is totally wrong; red goes with prawn/seafood salad or white meat - not a sour taste but a sweet one . Have a go.

Yes, it can be true. I think especially with Asian food, which can have a sweet taste if prepared a certain way, e.g., chicken dishes. But not sure of red with fish, though I’ve not tried with smoked fish as you say. Sauce and garnishing is more important than the colour of the meat in any case. At the end of the day, it’s your meal and your taste so you should drink what you want with what you want!

Thank you. Not just Asia food but western as well. It depends on the technique, the sauce and the combination of herbs etc. It’s fun anyway.
