Terra Felix Shiraz Viognier 2006 Saturday, May 26 2007
Tasting Notes and Australia and Nagambie Lakes and Wines of the Month and Top Value and Variety and Red and shiraz et al

I always think Terra Felix is in the Margaret River when I hear the name. And of course I couldn’t be more wrong, because it is actually in central Victoria. I suppose this shows the branding power of that other Felix winery. A relatively closed nose, with red cherries, light earth, butter, lightly perfumed apricot syrup and a bit of spice. The palate showed soft red fruits and spice, sour cherries and a dash of plums, full and rounded but in a lightly bodied way if you know what I mean. A nicely balanced wine, with soft tannins and good length.

Have had previous vintages of this wine. Nice wine for the price, about $12 at Dans

Linc,
Have had similar experiences as Eddy - generally Dans, though a couple of Cellarbrations outlets as well. Though I did find some of the previous vintages a bit ‘metallic’ on the teeth - late acid adjustment I thought at the time, that had just not settled. Still, for $12-14, not gonna complain!

By the strangest coincidence just bought one each of the 2005 Shiraz Viognier and Mourvedre (that Gary reviewed about a month ago) WITHOUT first checking on Winorama. As you know, Lincoln, I normally NEVER do that!
It was one of those “how bad could this be for $11.40 a bottle” things at Dans. And, as Gary was also, I was amused by the text on the front label.
Anyway, pleasantly surprised by both.
Faint aroma like arc welding on the Mourvedre’s nose, didn’t go through to the palate. But that might be what Darryl picked as “metallic” on the teeth.

I saw that the 06 SV was included in the Sun Herald best wines by Sally Dungeon and RKP.

Hmm (and flying in the face of press opinion) I’d like to see a touch less Viognier next vintage as it’s overwhelming the Shiraz with flouncy apricots … end result is a touch soapy and lacking in structure, no? That said, Terra Felix is a very welcome addition to the $15 landscape.
