Teusner ‘Albert’ Shiraz 2006 Thursday, Jul 24 2008
Tasting Notes and Australia and Barossa Valley and Variety and Red and shiraz et al

Were so sorry uncle albert
But we haven’t done a bloody thing all day
Were so sorry Uncle Albert
But the kettles on the boil and were so easily called away
And on that high note I’ll be winging it down to Melbourne for a few days to drink the finest wines available to humanity, so no updates (from me) for a couple of days. I’d have liked to have spent a bit more time with this wine to see how it looked on a second day, and to this end I may even be under-rating it.
Dark chocolate, tar, Brazil nuts, black fruits, a wisp of smokiness and flicker of mint but all dark, adult and savoury. Subdued tasteful oak an added blessing. It’s fresh, even slightly cheeky, on the palate with dark chocolate, nuts, a slight pepperiness and rich black fruits - an earthy wine of the soil rather than a sweet overtly fruity one. It has balanced alcohol, superb fine light sandy tannins and a long nuts and chocolate exit. This is pretty much how I like my Barossa Shiraz and it’s a magnificent example of the style.

Gary, had you tried the 04 or 05? Both beautiful wines, and cracked an 04 just a month ago and it was coming along a treat.

Gary - this sounds the goods (yet again) for the Albert. Lovely wines.
Can’t wait to get my hands on some… Do you know if there’s any truth in the word going round that there will be no ‘07 Albert?
Cheers,
Glenn.

I discovered this wine with the ‘04 vintage and immediately leapt on it. As jeremy says (obviously a learned bloke) both ‘04 & ‘05 are tops and coincidently I too had an ‘04 about 3 months ago and it is a super wine.
Will definitely be getting on the ‘06.

We’ll all be queing for the 06 I think Jeremy with a capital J
Sorry about joining the fun with the same name, but I made sure it was a small j to try not to steal anyone’s thunder. Not really that learned but very enthusiatic, thanks all the same. Good to see people catching on to Kym Teusner’s work. Funnily enough, we both discovered the Albert thru the 04 vintage, and as you point out, a damn fine inroduction it was.

Well you’re a good man Albert Brown
And you was wounded in the war
And though you shot some people down
You’re still a good man Albert Brown
Well you’re a good man Albert Brown
Though you are drunk upon the floor
And if you’re buying the next round
Then you’re a good man Albert…

By the way Kym bought some sav blanc fruit just recently (HaHa- I have an aversion to this grape putside of some oaked examples). The wine will be slightly oaked and probably one of the two or three sav/blancs I buy in the next year…He is an adventurous lad isn’t he

Still to try any Teusner wines, even though they’re being recommended to me all the time.
Even though I’m a little off Barossa Shiraz at the moment, this looks like it might be a nice re-entry for me

Ha ha. Like your site. Had me chuckling away. Keep it up…the trick is maintaining enthusiasm.

Man you’re not wrong there
It’s not so much about the wine, more of an excuse for a grumpy pom to spout off…

Hello all
GP…we will be releasing a 2007 Albert but there is not a lot…..around 250 cases.
Jeremy…the Sauvignon Blanc is from the Adelaide Hills…Woodside to be exact and doesn’t see any oak at all
Cheers

Hey Dave, my sources misinformed me on the sav blanc (The same source put me onto Teusner Albert, so I guess he can be forgiven). Sorry if I misled anyone. Will still be buying a bottle to check it out. Cheers
