Thorne-Clarke Shotfire Ridge Quartage 2005 Thursday, Nov 29 2007
Tasting Notes and Australia and Barossa Valley and Variety and Red and cabernet et al
The quartet in question is Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Merlot and speaking of quartets reminds me that I really must get myself off to the barbershop for a bit of a trim. Currently I am sporting something that looks like a cross between Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher and Richard O’Sullivan playing Robin Tripp in the 70’s classic sitcom ‘Man About The House’…
Aromas of cassis, black plum, chocolate, baking spices and pencil case oak. A fragrant and highly attractive wine showing rose garden (including the shrubbery) characters. On the palate full bodied with cherry, chocolate, baking spice and earthy briary flavours backed with some attractive vanilla oak. It also emits a rather exotic mouth perfume. Thick and supple but fresh and balanced, it has long fine grained tannins and a sustained briary earthy finish. Super wine. Smooth, seductive and very winning.

Yeah, even 94/100. Your description of this wine is spot on. I got one for my birthday and then proceeded to buy six. I should’ve bought twelve. So much wine, not enough money.

Presntly drinking my 3rd last bottle. Have one each left of cork and screwcapped seals. This one’s cork but is perfect. I love the ripe fruit, the superfine tannins the slight hint of musk lollies on the finish. Will have to start looking for the 2006, the 2004s being long gone.

Don’t know about 2006. Haven’t been happy with many 06’s I’ve tried although I did love the 06 Laughing Magpie.
