Tower Estate Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 Friday, Oct 20 2006
Tasting Notes and Australia and Coonawarra and Variety and Red and cabernet et al
I have really been enjoying the red wines from Tower Estate - especially the Barossa Shiraz and Tasmanian Pinot. This Coonawarra jobby is a bit of a let down.
Aromas of rubber, weeds, capsicum, red fruit and oak. On the palate red fruits and plenty of herbal activity. Prominent acidity and angular tannins and not enough fruit to cover it all up - like an anorexic flasher. Finishes with sour red fruits. The description sounds a bit harsh but it’s OK if you don’t mind light herbal cabernet. At the price you would expect a much better wine.

Faulty? Sounds like a second bottle is called for.

You should try the Tower Estate Hunter Shiraz 2005 if you haven’t, very smart.

Jeepers, sounds a bit harsh to me, I thought the balance between tannins, acidity and fruit was not too bad. Restrained would be a word I would use, as with all good cabernets.
I was also dissappointed with the wine in relation to its price, but still very drinkable.
