Xanadu Dragon Cabernet Merlot 2006 Sunday, Jul 6 2008
Tasting Notes and Australia and Margaret River and Frankland River and Variety and Red and cabernet et al
Well there you go. Here’s a Margaret River red where I prefer the 2006 vintage to the 2005 …at least I think so…it has been over a year mind you, so I could be wrong.
Impressive red purple colour then a blackcurrant, spice, mocha and an undercurrent of eucalyptus leaf and stalk. It’s medium to full bodied with firm but fine tannins, clean acidity and good flow and length. Attractive drinking (although admittedly slightly green tinged) - I think they’ve done well here.

A bloke in my local wine shop tried to flog me this when I told him I more liable to lean toward Coonawarra than the Margaret River for my cabernet/cabernet blends.
Interesting you say green, my experience of MR reds so involves one colour and yep, you’ve guessed it. Had a 2005 Fraser Gallup(Gallop) that was alright, but I’m being generous when I say alright.

Slip yourself into a 2005 Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon and let me know. I’ll bet you like it..
2006 a very cool green vintage for MR reds.

I would make a bet with you at this point, but I’ve just remembered how much I’ve lost at recent poker nights…
