Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier 2003 Sunday, Apr 30 2006
Tasting Notes and Australia and Eden Valley and Variety and White and viognier et al

I went into town on Friday and stopped off at Vintage Cellars to get something to take to dinner. VC had a tasting of Shiraz on so I tried a few and bought another, more about that on a later post. I decided to buy the Yalumba Viognier because I have had several other vintages before and enjoyed them. This has apricot and peach aromas plus a little complexity that I couldn’t work out. However, on the palate despite having a little oiliness to add to its texture it seemed a little thin with a bitter/hard finish. Wendy described it as a metallic finish. The 14.5% could be the reason but it seemed like there was something else detracting. A pity, because the nose suggested it was on track. Heaps better than the French one of similar style I reviewed earlier but….. I await the responses of others who may help out.

Tried the 04 yet? Worth a look, in my opinion.

I definitely agree with Grant’s comment.
