Yalumba Hand Picked Mourvèdre Grenache Shiraz 2005 Friday, Nov 23 2007
Tasting Notes and Australia and Barossa Valley and Variety and Red and mourvedre et al
Such beautiful packaging and it would be even better with a DIAM or screwcap. Anyway, it has been a busy time for us this week welcoming our first born Charles (who is an absolute beauty!) into the world on Tuesday, but I still have my old baby to feed and poor old Winorama is feeling a little neglected. I’ll still aim to give him a bottle or two a day over the coming weeks if I can manage it. Burp!
An attractive perfume wafts over dark cherry, red berry, leather, dark chocolate and spice. On the palate full bodied with black cherry and red fruit, spice, leather, dried herb and dark chocolate flavours. It has plush ripe fruit but essentially tastes dark and savoury. Fine open weave lightly grainy tannins provide a supple mouthfeel and the finish is long with dark cherry, spice and leather to close. A brilliant example of rich old vine Barossa goodness.

Congratulations Gary. Excellent name. Being one myself, I can assure you that there is no such thing as too many Charles (although it’s difficult to pluralize as I’ve just found). Make sure you feed him Charles Heidsieck 2003 mis en cave, it’s not too bad for NV and a good introduction to things vinous. Plenty of burps there … although the mousse is rather delicate. You can then move him onto Champagne Charlie when he starts to walk!!

Congrats!!! on holidays in vietnam, and can advise that this wine is actually slightly cheaper in Hanoi than Sydney…as is the Bollinger in Nha Trang

Named after the Prince of Wales no doubt - does he have big ears ?

Tiny little ears. He is very long. He likes Champagne Charlie and Linc and David have read his mind and sent a bottle of the 95 already.

Ahhh, should have thought about the French connection……is he long like Charles de Gaulle was tall ? What about his nose ?

Well I my wife bought a t-shirt yesterday which reads ‘lock up your sons’ (much to my disgust).

Congratulations, a bit late but still. He’ll sleep a lot for the first half of the year but after that… park, playground, zoo, less sleep, less wine and less time for the blog but a wonderful kid that will smile at you every morning is better than it all.

Oh Gary, congratulations to you and JP. I am six months ahead of you - you’re in for a very enjoyable ride.
No wonder the postings have been a little sparse lately!
cheers,
Graeme
